Shetland can be reached by air with British Airways. Flights come into Sumburgh Airport from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen on a regular basis.

Flights to Shetland from mainland Scotland take approx. 1 hour.

Shetland can now be reached directly (in the Summer months) from London. These flights are with Atlantic Airways.

Shetland can also be reached by boat with Northlink Ferries. Northlink Ferries offer passenger and freight services from Lerwick to/from Aberdeen and Kirkwall.
Although Unst is as far north as southern Greenland, it is a very accessible island. Smooth, modern roads and frequent vehicle ferries link the Shetland mainland to Unst via the neighbouring island of Yell. The ferries are very busy in summer. If travelling by car it is advisable to book by phoning the ferry office, 01957 722259.
Take the A970 to Toft ferry terminal. Follow signs for the North Isles from Lerwick which takes approx. 45/60 minutes (27 miles / 43.5 km).

From Sumburgh Airport, the journey takes approx. 60/90 minutes (49 miles / 79 km).

Ferry crossing to Yell which takes approx. 20 minutes

Follow the main road from Ulsta to Gutcher ferry terminal which takes approx. 25/30 minutes (18 miles / 29 km).

Ferry crossing to Unst takes approx. 10 minutes.

Car hire on mainland Shetland can be organised through Bolts Car Hire.
There is Bus service from the Viking Bus Station, Lerwick (daily/except Sundays). Morning service connects with ferry arrivals from Aberdeen (though the bus stop is across the road from the terminal at the Shetland Hotel, and the bus usually picks up around 08:10am).
